The Poetics of Open Works

The poetics of open works by Umberto Eco is a written explanation on a section of modern pieces within the year 1962. Open Work is a term used to describe a creative piece of work, this work could be Art, Music or even conventional writing. It is a way to show how artists, musicians and so on interpret work in there own different manners.

How someones sees a create piece will inevitably be different to someone else. Doing so allows an openness within the way it is analysed. Artists and other mediums will find this is a great way to add dynamism to a piece of work allowing a different multitude of layers.
Creative work has an open nature allowing it to be viewed in different ways, allowing people to have such a wide variety of opinions. I believe it allows an Artist, Musician, gamer or anyone who is doing something creative to broaden how far there work can be received.

I went on to read into works using the same theory that regarded Video games it helped me gauge the understanding to how modern games are open to narrative, we basically follow an open structure that allows us to manipulate the beginning middle and end game. He explains he the viewer is not 'Bound to a single way of transversing the narrative presented to him', because of this they are open to interpretation on events that will happen accordingly. One of the reasons I found this so interesting is because it is something I can relate to myself, an avid gamer and enjoyer of non linear narratives I understand how 'open work' is something that works in such a positive way.
