Regardless of its origin, the main focus of modern tattoos is self-expression to portray something personal to ones self in a form of art. Tattoos and those who wear them continue to struggle for mainstream acceptance and legitimacy in Western societies.
While tattoos and Body Art have been an integral part of cultures all over the world, here in the UK. It's only been over the past few decades that we've opened our eyes to view this form of art differently. Formerly strictly considered a mark of criminals, or other undesirables, the public perception of tattooing has come a long way.
People in cultures all around the world are currently in a state of 'judging books by their covers', Socially visible tattoo marks often draw negative attention, stereotyped and can even extend into discrimination. Society see's them as unequal, delinquents, gangs, and so on. Many organisations and companies choose not to employ you if you are sporting a visible tattoo.
