Where's Wesley - Final

Physical

My final Design was a combination of the processes used through research and development, stemming from the original ideas that consisted of the ways in which i’am currently in a confused state of mind, my persona is trapped in a world where i am not sure how to move forward or step out from the crowd. The final design was a slow burning process that I changed numerous times, which you can see in previous pages. overall layout and colours were worked in a way that would help the image stand out when combined with others in the exhibition.    .

Each of the designs you see were hand drawn and then scanned and painted digitally through photoshop. Some ended up being duplicated and recoloured to save time when creating the collage. I initially began by using a palette of colours that didnt follow a guidline, this then changed because the image ended.

Within my project we were told toto combine the uses of our future slef happiness and technology, I feel I have interpreted these in my own way. Interpretting future self and happiness as a way of self discovery, when asked how i feel about my future self or where I see myself in ten years I was confused and couldnt give a direct answer. After researching ways in which this could be portryed I hit a standstill. I decided on attempting to illustrate the emotion around not knowing what or where I am going to be in my future life. Intended to be interactive whoever viewed the image would read a short section below explaining the idea and how they could help me to ‘Find Myself’, thus helping me achieve overall happiness. this would then be followed with a link to a twitter domain where I asked individuals to send in tips on how to become a better you.

Digital

As stated within my previous page I desrcribed how my final design was accompanied by a short paragrpah that explained how I wanted people to resond to my final design.
This was also accompanied by a QR code which was created online that had a direct link to the twitter site I was going to be using.

The aim was to grab peoples interests by making them think about how they could ‘become a better you’ . This was the main motive behind the self-discovery to show how as individuals we should want to stand out, but we dont always find it that easy.

Showreel - After Effects

I added all of my After Effects videos to a 30 second showreel, this was accompanied by short transitions showing which slide would be coming next, it would again be extremely simple because I'am not the most skilled within AE.

When rendering the video I had issues in terms of decreasing the file size and importing to Vimeo, two reasons being that I had reached my weekly limit, the second being a couldn't decrease the size of the video to a workable format. After a few attempts I decided to create a new Vimeo account so that I didn't have to wait for the limit to refresh.

Zbrush - First Time

Zbrush is a software that I have decided to start using due to the fact I have been interested in modelling 3D objects for a while, although not something I enjoy doing on a physical level I have always found it interesting digitally. mainly the ways in which characters and designs are made for gaming and filming. The software was hard to come by and initially get to grips with but the creation below for a very first attempt I feel is rather successful.

I began by watching numerous tutorials and reading through some guides on the Pixologic website that helped me grasp the overall layout of things such as tools and the way in which they work. By already being fluent in programmes such as photoshop and illustrator it helped me come to grips with the way things work much quicker. I began by following a simple guide on how to get the forms of a human head correct, then started modelling the shape and forms to create something that resembled an image I had in my head. This broadens on from the use of Cinema 4D due to the fact I feel you are quite limited to what you will and can create.

I am aiming to gain further knowledge within Zbrush by continuing to test myself and create objects and character over time. The Grey figure below being a first step towards what could be a final character or image.

Where's Wesley - Cinema 4D

Using my final cinema 4d lesson as a reference I began by testing out 3D texts on the software that could potentially be used to create my 'Where's Wesley' piece more visually pleasing. initial steps began by selecting a font that would stand out but not over power the image it would be over, or parallel with. 'Coolvetica' is a royalty free text that was used in block capitals, there was a slight bit of retouching done within spacing of the letters within the header, also the height and width of the question mark. As stated within previous blogs C4D is not one of my strong points but this was more of just an initial test to see if I could combine medias. The grey on white image was the initial design that I went ahead and edited into the collide piece, I found it difficult to edit and make it feel as though it was part of the backdrop, which can be seen on screen shot below.

My second attempt at creating something that would work slightly better consisted of my using the coloured backdrop that was already on the Collide piece and transferring that into C4D using the correct Hashtag and letter number combination. The use of light blue with white text worked rather well when being combined with the blue background that was already merged down. after initial editing and tweaking of layout I found that the use of a text with an Outer Bevel didn't work as well as I first thought.
To conclude I went back to redesigning and highlighting the type of lettering that would work well with an image that was essentially a 2 Dimensional piece. I went ahead with using the same Font 'Coolvetica' and added effects such as a very subtle drop shadow. I combined that with the use of 2 Coloured rectangles which would create a sort of plaque effect, something that i referenced within the books Wheres Wally.

Andy Baker - Parklike Festival 2016

Parklife Festival 2016 from Andy Baker on Vimeo.

Andy Baker collaborated on an animated piece for the manchester festival 'Parklife', its a bright colourful but extremely simple animation that uses flat image drawn within illustrator. Andy Baker is the lead designer within the project who animated and illustrated some of the works you see above.

I like the use of colours within the design as I can use this as reference towards my collide work, the design consists of a neutral colour palette with only 5-6 different shades used. As stated within my collide project I decided against using a random generic selection of colours because there would be no structure to the image. This is a good example of why structure within a design makes it look and seem more professional.
